USDA and Extension Offer Fire Recovery Support

USDA and Extension Offer Fire Recovery Support

By Scout Nelson

Nebraska Extension, along with two federal partner agencies, is organizing a series of informational meetings to support wildfire recovery efforts in western Nebraska. These meetings will take place from April 8 to April 10 and aim to help agricultural communities understand available resources and plan their recovery.

The sessions are designed to provide useful information for those affected by wildfires. Attendees will learn about disaster relief programs, technical support, and practical strategies to rebuild operations. The meetings will also focus on grazing and cropping options, helping participants make informed decisions for the upcoming seasons.

Each meeting is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a meal at 6:00 p.m. provided by Hot Meals USA. The shared meal encourages open discussion, allowing participants to exchange ideas and experiences. The meetings will be held at three locations: Arthur Veterans Memorial Hall on April 8, Brady Community Center on April 9, and Oshkosh City Auditorium on April 10.

Experts from Nebraska Extension, along with representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), will lead the sessions. They will provide guidance on several important topics, including disaster assistance programs, land recovery, and technical support services.

The program will also address mental health resources, recognizing the emotional impact of wildfires. Participants will have the opportunity to hear experiences from others and learn ways to move forward after such events. The meetings aim to create a supportive environment where people can share knowledge and find solutions together.

In addition to the meetings, online resources are available to support recovery efforts. These resources provide detailed information on assistance programs and recovery strategies.

Overall, these meetings play an important role in helping agricultural communities recover, rebuild, and prepare for the future after wildfire damage.
