The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently announced the appointment of several key individuals to senior roles within the organization. These appointments are crucial for shaping future U.S. agricultural policies and strategies.
Alysia K. Peters has been appointed as the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. Her background includes significant roles in the Peace Corps and Nevada state government, bringing a wealth of experience in public administration and policy.
Dr. Alexandra Lawrence takes on the role of Chief of Staff for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, leveraging her extensive background in conservation and environmental science from her previous positions at the Peace Corps and Ocean Conservancy.
Ethan Holmes will serve as Senior Policy Advisor for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. With his experience at the United States Trade Representative and in legislative advisory roles, Holmes is well-prepared to tackle challenges in agricultural policy and health inspection services.
Sakeenah Shabazz is appointed as Senior Policy Advisor for the Food and Nutrition Service, where she will focus on integrating nutrition and health policies. Her experience includes roles at the Berkeley Food Institute and the Congressional Hunger Center.
Maya Cohn and Maya Johnson both join as Policy Advisors for the Natural Resources Conservation Service, bringing diverse experiences from environmental policy to classroom teaching.
These appointments reflect the USDA’s commitment to strengthening the leadership necessary to support the nation’s agricultural sector and ensure the effective implementation of U.S. food and agricultural policies.
