The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announces the renewal of the Federal Interagency Collaboration to Reduce Food Loss and Waste (FIFLAW), with EPA, FDA, and USAID joining efforts to address food waste domestically and internationally.
The collaboration aims to produce educational materials, conduct outreach, and develop voluntary programs to reduce food loss and waste. With USAID's inclusion, efforts will expand globally, leveraging private and non-governmental partnerships.
USDA also invests $4 million in research and consumer education projects. Purdue University and Ohio State University will lead efforts to address food loss and waste through research, extension outreach, and consumer education campaigns.
Ohio State University will pilot a consumer education campaign to reduce household food waste, while Purdue University will establish a center for research and extension on food loss and waste.
These efforts complement USDA's ongoing initiatives, including the Food Loss and Waste Innovation Fairs and partnerships with businesses committed to reducing food waste.
