2022 Ag census watersheds report released

2022 Ag census watersheds report released

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has announced the publication of the 2022 Census of Agriculture Watersheds Report.

This document is the first in a series of six Subject Series reports associated with the 2022 Census of Agriculture. It provides a unique breakdown of agricultural data according to the 6-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (watershed) boundaries.

NASS Administrator Joseph Parsons emphasized the importance of this report for anyone concerned with the health of watersheds, as it offers a novel perspective on agricultural census data beyond traditional national and local analyses.

The report covers a range of topics including farm counts, land usage, and the environmental practices tied to fertilizer and chemical use.

Researchers, policymakers, and community organizations will find the data particularly useful for assessing agricultural impacts on the environment. Such information is vital for shaping effective government programs and policies aimed at sustainable agricultural practices.

The Watersheds report is accessible through the NASS website, along with other valuable resources such as market value rankings and demographic profiles of agricultural producers.

Future releases will include detailed reports on specialty crops and agricultural operations in American Indian reservations, enhancing the utility of the ag census data for a broad spectrum of users.
