The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has announced an additional late-season pheasant stocking to enhance hunting opportunities in Region 8.
In January 2025, approximately 670 adult ring-necked pheasants will be released on public lands open to hunting in Chemung, Steuben, Livingston, Ontario, and Yates counties. These pheasants will come from DEC’s Reynolds Game Farm in Ithaca.
Late-season pheasant hunting is a great way for new hunters to engage with the sport, while also providing experienced hunters the chance to head out after deer season ends.
It offers an opportunity for both novice and seasoned hunters to gather with family and friends in the outdoors.
The pheasant releases in Region 8 will take place during the weeks of January 5 and January 12 on several public lands, including:
- Big Flats Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Chemung County
- Helmer Creek WMA in Steuben County
- Hemlock-Canadice State Forest in Livingston County
- High Tor WMA in Ontario and Yates counties
- Honeoye Inlet WMA in Ontario County
Pinnacle State Park in Steuben County
Hunters are encouraged to consult the 2024-2025 New York State Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide for specific harvest boundaries, season dates, and bag limits.
