The Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America (ASHCA) is hosting the AgSHARP® Certificate Program on August 13-14, 2024, in DeForest, Wisconsin.
In collaboration with the University of Wisconsin's Agricultural Safety and Health program, led by Professor John Shutske, this two-day intensive course aims to enhance the safety management skills of agricultural professionals.
Designed for a diverse audience including farm safety managers, health professionals, insurance specialists, and agribusiness staff, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum featuring case studies, exercises, and practical activities. A farm visit is planned to provide real-world insights.
“While the program will feature several dairy-related issues, much of the content will apply to other segments of Wisconsin agriculture, including other livestock, specialty crops, field crop and feed production, and related agri-service businesses,” says Shutske. “We will focus on the changing nature of the industry, worker needs, and how safety is connected to workforce engagement, retention and positive relationships.”
A roster of experts, including insurance professionals and Extension safety leaders, will share their knowledge on critical topics such as:
- Human health and safety risk management
- OSHA regulations in agriculture
- Safety culture and employee involvement
- Confined spaces, grain bin entry, and other hazards
- Tractor and machinery safety
- Animal handling and facility design
- Emergency response planning
- The business case for safety and health
