Alfred State Expands Recruitment Reach into Ohio

Alfred State Expands Recruitment Reach into Ohio

By Andi Anderson

Alfred State College (ASC) is broadening its reach across state lines, officially expanding its recruitment efforts into Ohio as interest from out-of-state students continues to grow.

The college’s move comes after a 41 percent increase in out-of-state applications over the past two years and an 11 percent rise in overall enrollment, reflecting ASC’s growing regional appeal.

The expansion builds upon Alfred State’s strong reputation for hands-on, career-focused learning and affordability. The college was recently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the number one regional college for undergraduate teaching among institutions across 11 northern states.

Admissions leaders believe these top rankings, paired with value-based tuition, are attracting attention from families beyond New York.

During recent visits to Columbus, Ohio, Alfred State representatives met with high school students, parents, and counselors to discuss career-ready programs and affordability options, including the Freeway Scholarships.

These scholarships reduce out-of-state tuition to just $7,070, significantly lower than the $10,922 average in-state tuition at Ohio’s public colleges.

“It’s exciting to introduce a whole new section of the country to Alfred State,” said Laura George, Assistant Director of Admissions. “Families are often surprised by how affordable we are compared to their own state schools—and we’re only a few hours away.”

According to Kishan Zuber, Vice President for Enrollment Management, Alfred State’s 99 percent employment and continuing education rate makes it a compelling choice for students seeking strong career outcomes. This year, the college welcomed students from 27 states and five countries, highlighting its growing national presence.

Recruitment success has also been notable in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where higher in-state tuition costs have driven families to look for affordable, high-quality alternatives.

The college’s new Ohio outreach will be supported by a digital marketing campaign aimed at strengthening enrollment pipelines amid declining high school graduation rates in New York.

Alfred State invites high school juniors and seniors nationwide to visit the campus during fall open house events on October 18 and November 9 to meet faculty and experience its career-focused learning environment firsthand.
