The Barry County Livestock and Forage Conference is scheduled for February 27, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Cassville, Missouri. Running from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the event will provide local producers with valuable insights into forage management, economic considerations, and long-term planning for their operations.
The evening will begin with a sponsored meal at 6:00 p.m., followed by a welcome and introduction of Platinum Sponsors.
A key presentation on equipment investment versus custom hiring will be led by Jennifer Lutes, University of Missouri Extension Field Specialist in Agricultural Business. She will discuss economic factors producers should consider when making these decisions.
A panel discussion on warm-season forages will feature local experts, including Rex Myers (natives and grazing), Mike Meier (crabgrass and grazing), Drew Meier (crabgrass and hay), and Roger Davidson (Bermuda, grazing, and hay). Their insights will help producers optimize forage selection and management.
Dr. Eric Bailey, University of Missouri State Beef Extension professor, will present on stocker cattle and supplemental feeding strategies to enhance year-round operations.
Additionally, NOAA meteorologist Gene Hatch will provide a long-range weather forecast and discuss potential impacts on agriculture in southwest Missouri.
