Beef Fuels High School Athletes

Beef Fuels High School Athletes

By Scout Nelson

The Kansas Beef Council continued its strong partnership with the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) during the 2026 State Basketball Championships. The tournament took place across four cities—Emporia, Hutchinson, Wichita, and Dodge City—and featured teams from classifications 1A through 6A. The event drew significant attention, welcoming more than 63,000 fans who attended the quarterfinal and final games, creating an excellent platform to promote nutrition and performance.

Throughout the championships, beef was highlighted as a nutrient-rich source of protein that plays an important role in supporting strength, sustained energy, and recovery. These benefits are especially valuable for athletes competing in high-intensity sports like basketball, where endurance and muscle recovery are essential. The Kansas Beef Council used multiple strategies to share this message with both players and spectators.

Fans experienced the campaign through digital signage displayed in arenas and interactive in-game promotions. The message extended beyond the stadiums through the NFHS Network, where more than 93,000 viewers watched a 30-second commercial focused on the importance of proper nutrition and fueling beef. Public address announcements during games and engaging social media content further helped spread awareness about the benefits of including beef in a balanced diet.

In addition to these promotional efforts, the Sports Nutrition Game Plan was introduced as a valuable resource. This program offers science-based guidance designed to help athletes, coaches, and families better understand how to build balanced meals. It emphasizes the importance of combining nutrients to support training, improve performance, and enhance recovery after competition.

The continued collaboration between the Kansas Beef Council and KSHSAA reflects a shared commitment to supporting young athletes and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles. By connecting nutrition education with major sporting events, the initiative helps reinforce the role of beef as part of a well-rounded diet.

Through these efforts, the beef checkoff program continues to reach a wide audience while promoting the importance of proper nutrition. It also strengthens the connection between agriculture and everyday life, ensuring that the next generation understands how food choices can support both performance and overall well-being.
