Boost your farm with Ag progress days

By Blake Jackson

Penn State’s Ag Progress Days, held August 13-15, promises a packed agenda for farmers and agriculture enthusiasts alike.

The J.D. Harrington Crops, Soils, and Conservation Building will be the epicenter of activity, showcasing the latest in crop management, conservation, and renewable energy.

Visitors can expect a wealth of information from Penn State experts on topics ranging from crop production and weed identification to water quality and sustainable agriculture.

Interactive displays, including a virtual reality tour of a solar array and hands-on biogas activities for kids, will bring renewable energy to life.

A highlight of the event is the Energy Showcase, focusing on solar power for farms. Experts will discuss various aspects of solar energy, from installation to financial considerations. Additionally, demonstrations on livestock watering systems, soil health, and cover crops will provide practical insights for farmers.

The Pennsylvania No-Till Alliance and Penn State Extension will showcase the benefits of no-till farming through rainfall simulator demonstrations and equipment displays. A planting green demonstration will allow visitors to witness the process firsthand.

Forage enthusiasts won’t be disappointed, as the Hay Show returns with competition and educational opportunities. Guided tours on water wellhead safety, stream buffers, and livestock pastures will round out the event’s offerings.

Ag Progress Days is more than just an exhibition; it’s a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring the latest advancements in agriculture. Whether you’re a seasoned farmer or simply curious about sustainable practices, this event offers something for everyone.
