The Center for Dairy Excellence will host its next “All Things Dairy” conference call on Wednesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. EST.
Held every other month, the call series provides dairy organizations, industry professionals, and producers with the latest information on programs, resources, industry developments, and upcoming events affecting the dairy sector.
This month’s discussion will focus on helping dairy producers manage summer heat stress and reduce its impact on herd health and productivity.
Featured speakers include Penn State Extension Dairy Educators Kasey Hower, Emily Fread, and Angela Breneman, who will share practical recommendations and management strategies for the warmer months.
“Every dairy farmer recognizes the problems with heat stress: reduced milk production, a drop in dry matter intake, and panting cows," said Valerie Mason-Faith, Risk Education Manager at the Center for Dairy Excellence.
"We thought heat stress was a timely conversation for this month’s call and could help dairy producers walk away with some new insight, tools, and tips to help protect their herds this summer.”
During the session, participants will learn about several key topics related to heat stress management.
The presenters will discuss effective cooling methods, including improving air movement, increasing ventilation, ensuring adequate water availability, and closely monitoring cattle during periods of high temperatures.
The panel will also offer feeding recommendations designed to address challenges such as reduced feed intake and lower rumination rates during hot weather.
In addition, speakers will highlight tools and management practices that can help dairy producers minimize production losses and maintain herd performance throughout the summer.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the panelists during the live event.
Those interested in participating can join via Zoom or by phone and are encouraged to contact Valerie Mason-Faith at vmason@centerfordairyexcellence.org for additional details.
