Chester County’s farming community took center stage Tuesday afternoon as AgConnect held its first-ever Best of Agriculture Awards at Lundale Farm, honoring individuals and organizations making a difference in local agriculture.
The gathering brought together farmers, public officials, and community members to recognize the region’s rich agricultural legacy and its continued growth.
The program began with opening remarks from AgConnect Executive Advisory Committee Chair Greg Newell, followed by comments from the Chester County Commissioners and agricultural partners.
“Chester County’s farmers are the backbone of our community,” said the Board of Commissioners in a joint statement.
“Their dedication not only sustains our local economy but preserves our landscapes and strengthens our food systems. This new, public-facing program shines a well-deserved spotlight on the individuals and operations that make our agricultural sector thrive.”
Awards were presented in three categories, highlighting excellence, leadership, and innovation:
- Young & Emerging Person in Agriculture - Becky Brett, Toad Stop Farm
- Woman in Agriculture - Samantha Smenkowski-Heacock, Full Circle CSA
- Community Impact in Agriculture - Growing Roots Partners
Additional speakers included Lundale Farm Executive Director Becki Patterson and David Ryle, Director of Programming at Trellis for Tomorrow, who emphasized ongoing initiatives supporting agricultural education and sustainability.
The event concluded with networking opportunities, local food tastings, and optional tours of the Ag Learning Center, reinforcing AgConnect’s mission to highlight agriculture’s vital role in Chester County.
