Chester County has officially recognized National Farmers Market Week 2026 from August 2-8, 2026, celebrating the important role farmers markets play in promoting local agriculture, supporting farm businesses, and connecting communities with fresh, locally produced food.
The Chester County Commissioners issued the proclamation during a public meeting on July 16, 2026. The recognition was presented to Carrie Harkness, manager of the West Chester Growers Market, and Jordan Peek, AgConnect program manager, representing the 10 farmers markets included in the 2026 Chester County Farm Guide and featured on the AgConnect Chester County Farmers Market Trail Map.
The trail map initiative encourages residents and visitors to explore local markets throughout the county while supporting farmers and agricultural businesses.
"It has been a real honor to work with our local farmers and also meet a lot of the members of our community and bring them both together," said Harkness. "We are honored to accept this proclamation on behalf of all the dedicated vendors, volunteers and market managers who make these markets successful."
National Farmers Market Week is observed each year during the first full week of August and recognizes the impact of farmers markets on local food systems, community health, and economic growth.
Across Chester County, these markets provide consumers with direct access to locally grown produce, meats, dairy products, baked goods, flowers, and other agricultural goods while creating valuable opportunities for farmers.
"Farming is a huge economic driver, not only in Chester County, but across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," said Peek. "Being able to support the farmers really supports the security of our food system."
The AgConnect Chester County Farmers Market Trail Map features 10 participating markets and encourages shoppers to discover different locations throughout the season.
The markets are also highlighted in the 2026 Chester County Farm Guide, which includes more than 125 local farms, farmers markets, agricultural businesses, and community resources.
The county’s recognition highlights the ongoing commitment to preserving farmland, strengthening local food networks, and supporting agricultural communities.
Officials encourage residents to participate in National Farmers Market Week and continue visiting local markets throughout the year to support farmers and experience the variety of products grown and produced in Chester County.
