Nebraska Extension offers a Part 107 Remote Pilot Exam Prep Course for individuals interested in commercial drone operation. The course will take place on Wednesday, March 4, at the Cheyenne County Extension Office in Sidney.
This eight hours, offline training program prepares participants to pass the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Exam. Successful completion allows individuals to earn a Remote Pilot Certificate required for commercial drone use.
“Farmers and ranchers like to use drones for either crop flying of fungicides or herbicides. Using drones at feedlots for flies or around manure lagoons. Basically, anytime you do an agriculture application with drones, you need the license,” said Dirk Charlson, Nebraska Extension Educator.
The course is designed to be simple and focused. Participants do not need an aviation background to attend.
“You don’t need an aviation background to complete my course, and it’s only one day. Where, if you go online or take it with some other business, the course can take up to 30 hours. I’ve narrowed it down to eight hours and really focus on the tough parts of the exam,” said Charlson.
The instructor has more than 10 years of teaching experience and renews his drone license each year to stay updated on exam requirements.
Pre-registration is required by Monday, March 2. The registration fee is $275 and includes study materials, a light breakfast, and lunch. Students and educators may qualify for an educational discount and will receive a PROMO code by email if eligible.
For more details or to register, interested participants can contact Dr. Dirk Charlson at dirk.charlson@unl.edu or call or text 402-460-0742.
This course offers a valuable opportunity for those interested in using drone technology safely and legally in agriculture and other industries.
