Cornell Event Helps Growers Improve Weed Management

Cornell Event Helps Growers Improve Weed Management

By Blake Jackson

Small-scale farmers and vegetable growers will have an opportunity to learn practical, sustainable weed management techniques during a hands-on workshop hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County on Wednesday, August 19, in Goshen, New York.

Led by agricultural educator Chris Pawelski, the evening program will focus on strategies that help reduce weed pressure while improving vegetable production.

Participants will explore methods to minimize time spent weeding, lower dependence on chemical weed control, and adopt effective practices that support healthier crops and more efficient farm operations.

The workshop will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Fields of Brian Pawelski and Bruce Ludovicy, located at 736 Pulaski Highway in Goshen. The registration fee is $10 per person and includes light refreshments.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to earn 1.0 New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Pesticide Recertification Credit in Categories 10, 1a, 21, 22, and 23.

The event is designed for beginning farmers, market gardeners, and experienced growers interested in strengthening their weed management practices through practical, field-based instruction.

Advance registration is encouraged because space may be limited. For additional information, contact Nicole Havens at (845) 344-1234, Ext. 262, or email nch48@cornell.edu.
