Farmers interested in improving their cover cropping practices are invited to a field event at the Cornell Willsboro Research Farm on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with a rain date scheduled for Wednesday, October 22.
The farm is located at 48 Sayward Lane, Willsboro, NY. The event will showcase new technologies for seeding and crop tracking, research-backed recommendations for high tunnel cover cropping, cold-tolerant crop varieties suitable for the North Country climate, and practical insights from experienced farmers. Light refreshments will be provided.
The agenda begins at 3:00 p.m. with a welcome, introduction, and a farm overview by Elisabeth Hodgdon of CCE ENYCHP and Michael Davis of Cornell Willsboro Research Farm.
Presentations include “Winter Cover Cropping in High Tunnels” by Judson Reid of the CCE Cornell Vegetable Program/Harvest NY and a winter pea variety trial and cover crop breeding update by Solveig Hanson of Cornell SIPS.
A cover crop drone seeding demonstration will follow, along with a farmer-to-farmer discussion. The event concludes with announcements on cover crop and soil health initiatives from Essex County Soil and Water Conservation, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, NRCS, and other organizations.
The registration fee is $10 per farm, and participants can earn 1 DEC pesticide recertification credit in categories 1A, 10, 21, 22, and 23.
