The Prices Received Index for Agricultural Production in December 2024, based on a 2011 base year, rose to 126.5, marking a 5.3% increase from November and a 12% rise from December 2023.
While the Livestock Production Index surged 8.3% from November and an impressive 33% year-over-year to 172.1, the Crop Production Index declined by 1.8% from last month and 8.7% from the previous year, settling at 92.7.
Farmers saw higher prices for market eggs, corn, broilers, and calves during December, while commodities such as lettuce, milk, hogs, and broccoli experienced price drops.
Market dynamics also played a role in these changes, with increased sales of market eggs, broilers, milk, and oranges, while corn, grapes, soybeans, and calves saw lower movement in the market.
In Missouri, December corn prices were $4.21 per bushel, slightly up from November’s $4.07 but still lower than the $4.91 recorded in December 2023.
Soybeans remained relatively stable at $9.82 per bushel, showing a marginal increase from November’s $9.81 but down from $13.10 a year earlier. Wheat prices dropped from $6.44 in December 2023 to $5.59.
The mixed trends reflect ongoing shifts in supply, demand, and broader economic factors shaping the agricultural sector as producers navigate changing market conditions.
