Iowa cattle producers will have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills by attending the Cyclone Cattle Feeder Days, scheduled from August 24 to 27, 2026, at four different locations across the state. These events will take place in Carroll, Monticello, Osage, and Orange City, making it easier for farmers from different regions to participate.
The program is designed to provide valuable insights into feedlot production, research developments, modern technologies, and market trends. Each location will offer the same set of topics and expert speakers, ensuring equal learning opportunities for all attendees. The sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.
Aimee Wertz-Lutz, Director of the Iowa Beef Center, Associate Professor, and Extension Feedlot Specialist at Iowa State University, emphasized the importance of informed decision-making in cattle feeding. She said, "With the high cost of cattle placements, it is important to use data to drive decisions regarding the feedlot enterprise. We are excited to bring Cyclone Cattle Feeder Days to multiple regions of Iowa and meet cattle feeders where they are. This program is intended to look at a strategic approach to integrating technology and electronic data capture into feedlot production."
The events will feature several important topics. Experts will discuss market outlook and risk management to help farmers understand price trends and reduce financial risks. Dan Andersen, Associate Professor and Extension Agricultural Engineering Specialist at Iowa State University, will explain how to improve manure value across farming systems.
Other sessions will focus on adopting new and existing technologies to improve feedlot efficiency. Researchers from Iowa State University will also present findings on feeding and management strategies that help cattle handle stress better. Additionally, David Trowbridge from Gregory Feedyards will demonstrate how modern technologies can be applied effectively in feedyards.
The registration fee for the program is $20 per person, and participants must register by August 17 through their local county extension office. Each event will include a complimentary meal and provide time for interaction with speakers and sponsors.
