Dairy Students Win Top Scholarships

Dairy Students Win Top Scholarships

By Blake Jackson

Two college students have been recognized for their contributions to dairy promotion through scholarships awarded by the American Dairy Association North East (ADA North East).

One recipient, a sophomore at SUNY Morrisville, earned the $1,000 Dawn Houppert Memorial Scholarship. This award is given to a student from New York State who has worked as a dairy promoter and completed at least one year of college. The scholarship honors Dawn Houppert, who supported dairy farmers for over 20 years and led the dairy princess program for a decade. The recipient previously served as a dairy ambassador, promoting the Fill a Glass with Hope® program, which provides milk to families in need.

Another student, a sophomore at SUNY Cobleskill, received the $500 Leo Briggs Memorial Scholarship. This award is presented annually to a college student from the ADA North East region who embodies leadership in dairy promotion, following the legacy of Leo Briggs. The recipient, an associate ambassador from Cortland County, has been involved in 4-H and the Holstein Association, aspiring to a career in animal agriculture.

These scholarships highlight the importance of youth involvement in dairy advocacy and leadership. For more details about ADA North East’s programs, visit their official website.
