Dairy Workshop will Improve Milking Skills and Cow Care

Dairy Workshop will Improve Milking Skills and Cow Care

By Blake Jackson

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension Dairy Program will host “From Barn to Tank,” a hands-on workshop designed to help dairy farm employees improve milking practices, milk quality, and animal welfare.

Scheduled for November 20, 2026, the workshop will provide practical training in cattle handling, milking parlor procedures, and techniques that support cow comfort and operational efficiency.

Participants will learn how to recognize natural cattle behavior, maintain consistent milking routines, reduce mastitis risks, and protect milk quality while creating a safer working environment.

The program is intended for dairy employees and farm teams seeking practical skills they can apply in daily operations. The training also fulfills FARM program continuing education requirements for stockmanship credits, which participants can use during their next evaluation.

The workshop will be led by Carolina Pinzón, M.Sc., statewide bilingual dairy outreach specialist with UW-Madison Extension, and Manuel Peña, M.Sc., bilingual regional dairy educator serving Ozaukee, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, and Dodge counties.

Compeer is sponsoring the event in support of educational opportunities for Wisconsin dairy farms.

The workshop will take place at Roden Barnyard Adventures, 5545 County Road Y, West Bend, Wisconsin.

The English-language session will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Spanish-language session from noon to 3:45 p.m. Registration costs $25 per participant and includes lunch and training materials.
