Disaster Food Aid Now Open in Kentucky

Disaster Food Aid Now Open in Kentucky

By Blake Jackson

Residents in 24 Kentucky counties affected by the recent floods, landslides, and mudslides can now apply for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits. This support was approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service on May 20, 2025.

The D-SNAP program provides short-term food assistance to individuals and families in federally declared disaster areas. This approval follows a major disaster declaration issued on May 14, 2025.

Eligible counties include Breckenridge, Bullitt, Calloway, Daviess, Garrard, Grayson, Hancock, Hart, Henderson, Henry, Jefferson, LaRue, Lincoln, McLean, Meade, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Ohio, Oldham, Pendleton, Powell, Trimble, Warren, and Webster.

Applications for D-SNAP will be accepted from May 22 through May 29, 2025. Offices will be closed from May 24 to May 26 due to the weekend and Memorial Day.

“Team Kentucky is dedicated to ensuring every resource is available to folks who have been affected by severe weather so that they can get back on their feet,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “My faith teaches me that we should always take care of our neighbors, and making sure people have food on the table is one way we can do that.”

To apply quickly, residents are encouraged to call the Department for Community-Based Services (DCBS) at 1-855-306-8959. Applications can also be submitted in person at local DCBS offices, open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST.

This initiative ensures that affected families and individuals can meet their basic needs and recover from the crisis with community and federal support.
