Farmers in Missouri can gain valuable insights on timely agricultural topics at a free event on Thursday, August 8th, in Palmyra. University of Missouri Extension specialists will be sharing their expertise from 10 am to 1 pm at Hall's Hall.
Corn growers facing challenges due to late planting will find helpful information on drying and storage techniques from Charlie Ellis, MU Extension ag systems technology specialist.
Managing crop diseases is a key focus of the event. MU Extension state plant pathologist Mandy Bish will discuss tar spot, a yield-reducing disease recently identified in northeastern Missouri counties. She'll provide tips for identification and fungicide treatment recommendations.
Nick Wesslak, MU Extension field agronomist, will address red crown rot, a disease not yet confirmed in Missouri but expected to spread soon. He'll cover management strategies and potential yield impacts.
The session concludes with a presentation by agronomist Rusty Lee on managing fall forages. He'll delve into stockpiling techniques, fall pasture weed control, and the benefits and methods of frost-seeding legumes.
