The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites the public to its Wheat Variety Tour at the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Research Center in Grant, Nebraska, on Wednesday, June 12, starting at 10 a.m. MDT.
This event, part of the UNL Crop Performance Testing Program, is designed to provide valuable insights into different wheat varieties and effective management strategies against diseases and pests.
Hosted by UNL farm managers and cooperating farmers, the tour is a perfect opportunity for attendees to deepen their understanding of modern agricultural practices. There is no admission fee, making it accessible for all interested parties.
During the field day, researchers from the West Central Research, Extension and Education Center will present their latest findings on topics such as wheat stem sawflies, winter peas, and hybrids that are tolerant to water stress. These updates are essential for farmers looking to enhance their crop resilience and productivity.
Attendees will receive information about the 2024 UNL-TAPS sorghum competition, another significant aspect of research conducted at the Stumpf Center this year.
After the tour, a complimentary lunch will be served, offering a chance for attendees to discuss the insights gained and network with peers and experts.
The Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Research Center is located half a mile south on Highway 61, taking Road 761 east for one mile and then south on Road 329. Transportation to field sites is available for a convenient and informative experience.
