The University of Minnesota Extension will host an educational meeting on farmland rental rates on November 10, 2026, at the Steele County Community Center in Owatonna, Minnesota. The event is intended to help landowners, farmers, and agribusiness professionals better understand the factors that influence farmland rental agreements and make informed decisions.
Farmland rent remains one of the most significant expenses for many farming operations. As land values, input costs, and market conditions change, establishing a fair rental agreement can be challenging for both landlords and tenants.
Participants will learn about local farmland rental rate trends and factors affecting rental prices in the region. Extension specialists will also discuss how historical data and current market conditions can help guide lease negotiations and future rental expectations.
The program will include information on current farmland values and recent land sales trends across Minnesota. Understanding these market factors can help landowners and farmers evaluate rental opportunities and negotiate agreements more effectively.
Another focus of the meeting will be farm input costs, including expenses related to seed, fertilizer, fuel, and equipment. These costs continue to influence farm profitability and play an important role in determining rental rates.
Attendees will also explore practical strategies for developing fair rental agreements that support long-term relationships between landowners and farm operators. The session will provide research-based information to help both parties make informed decisions.
The event is open to landowners, farmers, and agricultural professionals. Attendance is free, and no registration is required.
The meeting will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CDT at the Steele County Community Center, located at 1380 S. Elm Ave., Owatonna, Minnesota.
