Improve Deer Habitat with Prescribed Fire - MDC Event

Improve Deer Habitat with Prescribed Fire - MDC Event

By Blake Jackson

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), in partnership with the National Deer Association (NDA), will host a free online webinar designed to help landowners and land managers improve deer habitat through the use of prescribed fire.

The session, titled “Utilizing Prescribed Fire for Deer Management,” is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9, at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

The event will open with a presentation from an NDA Deer Outreach Specialist, who will discuss how prescribed fire can enhance habitat quality for whitetail deer by promoting native vegetation growth and improving forage availability.

Following the presentation, staff from both MDC and NDA will answer questions from participants, providing practical guidance on applying fire safely and effectively as a management tool.

This program marks the final installment in the 2025 Missouri Deer Management Webinar Series, a collaborative educational effort by MDC and NDA.

Previous sessions covered a range of topics, including the relationship between forests, woodlands, and whitetails. That presentation remains available for viewing on YouTube.

The September 9 webinar is free to attend, and participants can join directly through the provided Zoom link. It offers an opportunity for landowners to learn effective, science-based practices for enhancing deer habitat.
