Join AmeriCorps Senior’s gardening course in Missouri

By Blake Jackson

The AmeriCorps Senior (RSVP) program offers a rewarding opportunity for volunteers aged 55 and older to make a difference in their communities.

As part of the Extension Garden Steward program, AmeriCorps Senior volunteers will lead a 5-week course designed to teach the fundamentals of gardening, with a strong focus on environmental stewardship.

This free program is available to residents of Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties in Missouri. Participants will engage in a combination of informative presentations and hands-on activities, gaining valuable skills in gardening and sustainability.

As an added benefit, volunteers will receive a complimentary soil test and will be officially recognised as an AmeriCorps Senior.

The hours spent facilitating this course can also be counted toward Extension Master Gardener (EMG) outreach hours.

The course will take place at the Young School (Habitat for Humanity) located next to Restore, at 501 N Dodgion Avenue, Independence, MO 64050-3022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on December 7, 2024.

This program offers a unique chance to get involved in local environmental initiatives while supporting community growth through the power of gardening.
