Join MU Workshop on Winter Cattle Feeding Strategies

By Blake Jackson

“Feeding management of cattle is important to the profitability of the cattle operation,” says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist. With forage being the primary component of cow-calf diets, understanding the economics of acquiring and managing forage is essential for maintaining a profitable operation.

To address these topics, MU Extension, in partnership with Wheeler Livestock Auction, is hosting a workshop at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, at the Landmark Restaurant, 301 St. Main, Lowry City.

“This workshop will discuss winter cattle management and economics related to forage acquisition,” says Davis. The session will feature presentations by Davis and MU Extension livestock field specialist Andy McCorkill, who will cover winter cattle feeding strategies. Additionally, MU Extension agricultural business field specialist Jake Hefley will provide insights on the economic considerations of buying versus baling hay.

“This event is free, and a meal will be provided with support from Wheeler Livestock Auction,” says Davis. Interested participants must register by Dec. 8. Registration can be completed online or by contacting the MU Extension Center in St. Clair County at 417-646-2419. For further details, contact Davis directly at 417-276-3313 or via email at davismp@missouri.edu.
