The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board (KADB) has approved $2,583,685 in funding for agricultural diversification and rural development initiatives across Kentucky.
The decision was made during the board’s monthly meeting Friday, with funding aimed at strengthening farm operations, supporting agricultural businesses, and expanding opportunities in rural communities.
“Diversification equates to strength for our agricultural communities,” Commissioner of Agriculture and Board Chair Jonathan Shell said.
“Kentucky Agricultural Development Board recognizes this need for strength. The projects awarded today will create a stronger farming community for our state and our farmers.”
Among the approved projects, Berkshire Farms LLC will receive up to $3,750 in state funding for consulting expenses through the Food Safety and Efficiency Incentives Program.
Creekside Veterinary Services LLC was awarded up to $16,667 in multi-county funds and $83,333 in state funding to purchase a veterinary box and truck and make improvements to its existing facility.
Prime Poultry Partners LLC was approved for up to $4,000 in Taylor County funds and a forgivable loan of up to $162,755 to acquire equipment for a poultry processing facility.
Southern States Glasgow Cooperative Inc. received approval for up to $62,500 in multi-county funds and a participation loan of up to $937,500 to build a new fertilizer plant.
Webster County Fiscal Court was approved for $1,000 in county funds and $59,277 in state funding to construct a farmers’ market pavilion.
The board also approved 10 County Agricultural Incentives Program awards totaling $1,178,723.
The program provides cost-share assistance to producers for improvements and diversification across areas such as livestock, fencing, water systems, horticulture, poultry, beekeeping, technology, marketing, and value-added agriculture.
Additionally, two Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program awards totaling $18,230 and four Youth Agricultural Incentives Program awards totaling $55,950 were approved.
