Kentucky Hosts 2026 Horses and Horsemen Pasture Workshop

By Blake Jackson

Horse owners and equine enthusiasts are invited to attend the 2026 Horses & Horsemen: Pastures Please!! program, marking the 19th year of this popular educational event. The program will take place on Tuesday, February 17, at the Fayette County Extension Office in Lexington, Kentucky.

Designed to support better pasture and manure management for horse operations, the evening begins with a meal at 5:30 p.m., followed by a series of expert-led presentations. At 6:00 p.m., Dr. JD Green will discuss current weed challenges affecting pastures and practical control strategies.

The program continues at 6:30 p.m. with Dr. Bob Coleman, who will focus on effective composting and muck management techniques. At 7:00 p.m., Garrard Coffey and Steve Musen will explore the economics and nutrient value of manure, helping participants better understand its role as a resource rather than a waste product.

The event is hosted by Kentucky Cooperative Extension in partnership with University of Kentucky Ag Equine Programs and is supported by numerous agricultural and equine industry sponsors. Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged by calling 859-257-5582.
