KLA Meeting Focuses on State Bills

KLA Meeting Focuses on State Bills

By Scout Nelson

There is still time for members to register for the Kansas Livestock Association Legislative Meeting and Dinner scheduled for February 17 in Topeka. The event will take place at the Townsite Tower and will give members an opportunity to help guide action on key bills currently under consideration in the Kansas Legislature.

The afternoon session will begin at 1:00 p.m. when KLA staff reviewed proposed legislation. Members will then choose which bills to support or oppose and will discuss how those positions align with the organization’s policy priorities. This process will help members prepare for conversations with lawmakers later in the day.

Following the bill review, members will meet with legislators during a social hour and steak dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. The dinner will provide a relaxed setting where members can share perspectives, explain policy positions, and discuss issues affecting the livestock industry. The cost of the dinner will be $50 per person.

Earlier in the day, members will enjoy a complimentary lunch beginning at 11:30 a.m. The lunch will be sponsored by Equity Bank and Tallgrass and will offer time for networking and informal discussion before the legislative review session begins.

Several parking options will be available for those attending the event. Free parking will be located on the southwest corner of Kansas Avenue and Fourth Street. The Townsite Plaza Garage, accessed from Sixth Street, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with parking priced at $1 per hour. Vehicles will not be accessible after 8:00 p.m.

The Townsite Tower Garage, located just south of the venue on Kansas Avenue, will also be available. Parking there will cost $1 per hour between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and will be free after 5:00 p.m. While daytime space will be limited, the garage will remain open until after the dinner concludes.

Members are encouraged to register in advance to ensure participation in this important legislative meeting.
