Applications are now open for the New Farmer Expansion Grant, a program designed to support new and beginning farmers in Trumbull County.
The grant was created through the generous support of a local donor and aims to help individuals start or expand their farming operations.
The grant provides $1,500 to selected applicants to help offset farm-related expenses. Eligible costs may include fuel, fertilizer, equipment purchases, land rent, and other essential operational needs.
The appropriate use of the funds will be determined by the donor, offering flexibility while ensuring the money supports active farming efforts.
To qualify for the grant, applicants must be residents of Trumbull County and be at least 21 years of age. Applicants must also be able to provide documentation that demonstrates their intent to farm if requested by the Trumbull County Board of Trustees or the donor.
This requirement helps ensure that funds are awarded to individuals who are committed to agricultural production.
As part of the application process, candidates are asked to answer several questions. These include describing their background in agriculture and explaining how they plan to start or grow their farming operation.
Applicants must also outline how they would use the grant funds to strengthen their farm business and explain how they would provide proof that the money was spent for its intended purpose.
Final selection of the grant recipient will be made by the Trumbull County Farm Bureau in partnership with the donor. This collaborative approach ensures that local agricultural priorities and donor intentions are both respected during the selection process.
Applications must be submitted online, and all materials must be completed by the deadline of April 15, 2026. Farmers who are interested in applying are encouraged to prepare their information early to ensure timely submission. Apply online here.
