Learn lavender farming at Lavenlair field day

By Blake Jackson

On August 16, Lavenlair Farm in Whitehall, NY, will host a Cut Flower Field Day from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. Located at 437 Deweys Bridge Rd, this event will feature a range of educational presentations and a farm tour.

Lindsey Pashow, an Agriculture Business Development and Marketing Specialist with Harvest NY and owner of Adirondack View Lavender, will discuss soil preparation techniques specifically for lavender production.

Jingjing Yin, Regional Commercial Horticulture Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension's Capital Area Agriculture and Horticulture Program, will cover marketing strategies and value-added products for lavender operations.

The event, which costs $5 per person, offers a unique opportunity to learn about both the agricultural and business aspects of lavender farming. Attendees will gain insights into effective soil management and marketing strategies, followed by a guided tour of the farm.

Additionally, the Cornell Small Farms Program’s Farm Ops project is providing scholarships to veterans attending the Cut Flower Field Day.

Eligible veterans can receive reimbursement for the registration fee, mileage to and from the event, and a $100 stipend. This initiative aims to support veterans interested in agricultural ventures.
