The Cornell Equine Hospital and Cornell Cooperative Extension are set to host an insightful session in their ongoing Equine Seminar Series.
Scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM (EST), this virtual seminar will explore the role of medications in managing equine behavioral disorders.
Dr. Katherine Anderson, DVM, DACVB, from the Cornell Duffield Institute for Animal Behavior, will present on the topic "Behavior Medication Considerations for Horses."
The discussion will focus on how medications can aid horses experiencing conditions such as stereotypies, anxiety, aggression, and sleep deprivation. While medication is often used for infections, pain, and endocrine disorders, its role in behavioral health is less commonly addressed.
Dr. Anderson will outline when pharmaceutical intervention may be appropriate, the medications that can be considered, and which should be avoided.
Anderson will also provide insights into how these drugs function and their potential effects on equine health and behavior.
This seminar is an excellent opportunity for horse owners, trainers, and veterinary professionals to gain a deeper understanding of behavioral medication in equine care.
