Michigan Ag Credit Conference Returns on October 21

By Andi Anderson

The Michigan Agricultural Credit Conference is set to return on October 21 at Michigan State University, offering timely updates on the state’s agricultural economy.

The event, organized by MSU’s Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics (AFRE), will be held in the Molecular Plant Sciences Building from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Designed for agricultural lenders, agribusiness professionals, policymakers, and others connected to Michigan’s farm economy, the conference will focus on key issues shaping the industry.

Topics will include commodity markets, labor dynamics, agricultural policy, and trade outlooks, all vital for navigating today’s rapidly shifting agricultural landscape.

The program begins with a networking breakfast sponsored by GreenStone Farm Credit Services, followed by a keynote address from Jonathan Coppess, Associate Professor and Director of the Gardner Agriculture Policy Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Coppess will provide critical insights on federal farm policy.

Morning sessions will feature discussions led by Alan Ker, Loren Koeman, David Ortega, and Zach Rutledge, addressing labor, trade, and policy concerns. After lunch, attention will shift to commodity outlooks, with experts covering grain, dairy, livestock, and input markets.

Speakers include Jonathan LaPorte (MSU Extension), Jaime Luke (MSU AFRE), Angie Setzer (Consus), Sarina Sharp (Ag Business Solutions/Daily Dairy Report), and Tor Tolhurst (MSU AFRE).

Registration for the conference is $95 per person. Support is provided by the Elton R. Smith Food and Agricultural Policy Endowment, GreenStone Farm Credit Services, and the Stephen B. and Karen L. Harsh Agribusiness Outreach Endowment.
