The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced that physical loss loans are available to assist producers in Indiana and surrounding states impacted by severe weather earlier this year. These loans are designed to help farmers recover from tornadoes, high winds, and flooding that occurred between April 2 and April 6, 2025.
Through this program, producers can apply for financial support to repair or replace property essential to their farming operations. Eligible losses include damage to farm buildings, equipment, fixtures to real estate, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut trees, as well as harvested or stored crops and hay.
The disaster designation covers several states, with Indiana farmers among those eligible for relief. Primary counties in Illinois are listed under the program, while Indiana counties Benton, Gibson, Newton, Posey, Sullivan, and Vigo are also included as contiguous eligible areas. Farmers in these counties may apply for assistance if their agricultural operations suffered losses from the storms.
The application deadline for this assistance is April 20, 2026, giving producers nearly a year to prepare documentation and submit applications through their local FSA office. Administrators encourage farmers to apply as soon as possible to begin recovery efforts.
Indiana’s inclusion in this designation highlights the widespread impact of spring storms across the Midwest. The financial support aims to ensure that affected farmers can recover quickly and continue their vital role in food production.
“Physical loss loans are critical in helping farmers rebuild after natural disasters,” USDA administrators noted, emphasizing the importance of quick response to maintain agricultural stability.
For more information or to apply, producers should contact their local USDA Farm Service Agency office.
