New York experienced favorable fieldwork conditions during the week ending September 1, 2024, with 6 days suitable for agricultural activities. Topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies were generally adequate, with some areas reporting surplus moisture.
Crop Development and Harvesting:
- Apples: Apple harvesting reached 16% completion.
- Barley: 86% of barley was harvested for grain.
- Cabbage: Cabbage harvesting reached 42% completion.
- Corn: Corn development progressed, with 97% silking, 58% dough stage, and 25% dented.
- Fall Tillage: Fall tillage was 20% complete.
- Hay: Alfalfa hay harvesting reached 80% for the third cutting and 20% for the fourth cutting. Other hay harvesting was at 97% for the second cutting, 54% for the third cutting, and 11% for the fourth cutting.
- Oats: 85% of oats were harvested for grain.
- Onions: Onion harvesting reached 45% completion.
- Potatoes: Potato harvesting reached 34% completion.
- Soybeans: Soybeans were 94% blooming, 79% setting pods, and 10% dropping leaves.
- Sweet Corn: Sweet corn harvesting reached 57% completion.
- Snap Beans: Snap bean harvesting reached 33% completion.
Overall, New York's crops are progressing well, with many crops exceeding their 5-year average development. However, it's important to continue monitoring crop conditions and weather patterns to ensure a successful harvest.
