New York fieldwork report: July 14 update

According to the latest report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service for New York, fieldwork conditions for the week ending July 14, 2024, were conducive, with 5 days suitable for agricultural activities.

Topsoil moisture levels indicated 0 percent very short, 11 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus.

Similarly, subsoil moisture was reported as 0 percent very short, 7 percent short, 73 percent adequate, and 20 percent surplus, providing favorable conditions for crop growth across the state.

As of July 14, significant progress was noted in various crops. Barley had emerged on 95 percent of the intended acreage, with 75 percent already headed and 33 percent harvested for grain.

Cabbage planting was at 85 percent completion, while 7 percent had already been harvested. Corn emergence stood at 98 percent, with 11 percent of the crop silking.

Alfalfa hay's second cutting was 66 percent complete, while other hay varieties had achieved 96 percent in the first cutting and 38 percent in the second cutting stage.

Oats had reached 82 percent in the headed stage, while soybeans emerged on 97 percent of fields and were blooming on 22 percent.

Winter wheat was notably advanced, with 95 percent headed and 28 percent harvested for grain. These figures illustrate robust agricultural activity and progress in New York, supported by favorable moisture conditions and conducive weather for crop development.
