New York Grant Supports Farm Product Innovation

New York Grant Supports Farm Product Innovation

By Blake Jackson

The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, in partnership with the New York Farm Viability Institute (NYFVI), has announced a $1.36 million funding opportunity through the New York State Grown & Certified Research and Development Grant. This is the first time the program has dedicated funding specifically to research and development, aimed at helping agricultural producers, processors, and distributors create new products or expand existing ones.

The initiative builds on a previous $8.5 million investment that supported infrastructure and technology projects for program participants. This new grant focuses on helping farms and businesses move from product ideas to commercialization by providing targeted support for development and market entry.

The grant is open to businesses enrolled in the NYS Grown & Certified program that produce edible goods. Funding awards will range from $10,000 to $50,000 and will be distributed on a rolling basis until all funds are allocated. The program encourages participants at different stages of product development, from early research to expanding existing products, to apply for support.

Overall, the funding is designed to strengthen farm operations, create new market opportunities, and enhance the long-term viability of agriculture across the state.

Launched in 2016, the NYS Grown & Certified program ensures that products meet high standards for food safety and environmental stewardship. It also helps promote locally produced goods while building consumer trust in New York agriculture.
