Gregg Doud, President and CEO of the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), hails the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of Elanco's Bovaer as a significant milestone for the U.S. dairy industry. Doud emphasizes the importance of this new technology in reducing enteric emissions, which is crucial for dairy farmers striving for sustainability.
According to Doud, Bovaer and similar innovations will enable U.S. dairy farmers to meet consumer demands for lower-carbon foods while maintaining global competitiveness and leadership in sustainable dairy production. He expresses gratitude to the FDA for recognizing and supporting these efforts.
Doud also acknowledges the support of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in facilitating the adoption of Bovaer by dairy farmers. He highlights USDA's commitment to dairy sustainability, citing the allocation of over $90 million for innovative feed management under the Regional Conservation Partnership Program.
With FDA's approval of Bovaer, Doud anticipates that dairy farmers can now leverage these resources to implement sustainable practices on their operations. He emphasizes the significance of this approval in advancing dairy sustainability efforts and looks forward to further progress in the fiscal year 2024.
