North Dakota Crop Board Sets Meeting

North Dakota Crop Board Sets Meeting

By Scout Nelson

The Crop Protection Product Harmonization and Registration Board will hold its upcoming meeting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23. The meeting will take place in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture’s sixth-floor conference room at the State Capitol.

The session will begin with the call to order by Chairman Jeff Topp, followed by roll call, quorum confirmation, and approval of the previous meeting minutes from December 18, 2024.

Two financial reports will be presented by Lilliann Johnston. She will provide updates on the Minor Use Pesticide Fund Grant and the Pesticide Harmonization Grant budgets. These updates will help the board assess the funding status and future allocations.

The board will then review reports on earlier funded research. Topics include improving the timing and method of fungicide used to manage common crop diseases such as Ascochyta blight in chickpeas, white mold in dry beans, and powdery mildew in field peas. Other studies examine combining seed treatments with resistant varieties and optimized planting dates to manage root rot and exploring pesticide options for controlling bacterial leaf blight.

Two new project requests will also be evaluated. One focuses on managing blacklegs in canola using foliar fungicides. The other proposes optimizing fungicide application intervals and frequency in black and navy beans.

The board will further consider a Product Harmonization Fund proposal from the North Dakota Grain Growers Association for their educational E-Tour initiative.
