Nov. 7 workshop - boost meat processor success

The Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach Enterprise Development team is offering a Meat Processor Business Lifecycle Workshop on Nov. 7. The event will be held at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center in Ames, Iowa, and is designed to provide meat processors with essential strategies for business transitions.

The workshop focuses on helping small meat processors understand the unique needs of their local markets, navigate ownership changes, and handle federal, state, and local regulations effectively.

As new owners meet the growing demand for locally raised meat, the small-scale meat processing industry faces distinct challenges.

Owners and managers must make well-informed decisions at various stages of their business lifecycle, from purchasing an existing facility to expanding or retiring.

This workshop will provide valuable insights into transitioning ownership, tax implications, and other critical aspects of maintaining a successful meat processing business.

The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. Participants will also be provided with a light breakfast and lunch during the event.

Registration costs $25 if completed by Oct. 27, and $35 for those registering after that date. The final deadline to register is Nov. 6.

This event is an excellent opportunity for meat processing business owners and managers to gain the knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive market while making informed decisions about the future of their operations.
