Orange County 4-H Livestock Sale Raises Nearly $30,000

Orange County 4-H Livestock Sale Raises Nearly $30,000

By Blake Jackson

Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County held its Annual Orange County 4-H Calf and Livestock Sale on May 9 at the Education Center & 4-H Park in Otisville, New York, bringing together local farmers, youth participants, and community supporters for an evening focused on agriculture and youth development.

The event gave dairy and livestock producers an opportunity to network, connect with buyers, and bid on quality consignments during the live auction.

Visitors also participated in silent auctions featuring donated items, while calves, livestock, flowers, and other goods were sold throughout the evening.

One of the highlights of the fundraiser was the return of the popular chicken barbecue, which raised additional support for the Orange County 4-H Dairy Program.

Funds generated from the meal sale will help support educational trips, youth programming, and future activities for local 4-H members. Organizers reported that total sales from the evening reached approximately $30,000.

“This year’s 4-H Calf and Livestock Sale was truly historic - not just in numbers, but in the energy and dedication behind it. Our youth stepped up in a big way, taking ownership of marketing the sale, reaching out to buyers, and promoting the event across the community.” Said Zoe Nafis, CCE Orange County’s Livestock/4-H livestock, Equine, Dairy Program Manager.

“Their hard work paid off in record-breaking participation and support. This level of enthusiasm is especially impactful, reflecting a renewed strength and momentum within Orange County’s dairy and livestock industry. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and community partners whose continued support makes opportunities like this possible for our youth.”

The fundraiser supports educational programs, leadership development, workshops, contests, and hands-on agricultural experiences for Orange County 4-H members.
