The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension is offering a “Parasite Patrol - Plus” workshop tailored for sheep and goat producers. Scheduled for Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the event will take place at the Edgar Steam Show Grounds in Edgar, WI.
This interactive workshop aims to help producers better manage the health risks that intestinal parasites, or helminths, pose to their animals. Participants will learn about the parasite life cycle, resistance development, and effective management strategies.
The program features two hands-on sessions: one focused on Fecal Egg Count (FEC) using samples from participants' own animals, and the other on FAMACHA, a tool for assessing anemia in small ruminants.
A Small Ruminant Specialist from UW-Extension will guide attendees through parasite identification, treatment options, and how to make selective deworming decisions. This is especially important as worldwide resistance to common de-wormers continues to rise, making strategic parasite control essential.
The workshop is limited to 25 participants who must pre-register by October 9. The fee is $25 per session, which includes training materials and snacks.
