The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension will host a “Parasite Patrol - Plus” workshop designed for sheep and goat producers looking to better manage herd health.
Scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, the event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Govin’s Farm in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
This interactive program will address the challenges posed by intestinal parasites, also known as helminths, which can significantly affect animal health and productivity.
Participants will learn about parasite life cycles, how resistance to dewormers develops, and effective strategies to manage these risks.
The workshop includes two hands-on learning opportunities. One session focuses on fecal egg count (FEC) testing, where attendees will analyze parasite levels using samples from their own animals and receive tools to continue testing at home.
The second session covers FAMACHA training, allowing participants to assess anemia levels in animals and earn certification.
Carolyn Ihde, Small Ruminant Specialist with UW-Madison Extension, will lead the sessions and share practical insights on targeted parasite control.
Pre-registration is required by April 16, with attendance limited to 20 participants. The cost is $30 per session or $60 for both, including materials and refreshments.
