The Pennsylvania Dairy Excellence Foundation has opened nominations for the newly established David Hileman Memorial Veterinary Service Award, recognizing large animal veterinarians who demonstrate outstanding dedication to Pennsylvania’s dairy farming community.
Established in 2026, the award honors veterinarians who have demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting large animal producers and improving the sustainability, health, and welfare of Pennsylvania dairy herds through responsive and service-focused veterinary care.
Eligible nominees must be practicing large animal veterinarians in Pennsylvania who are either younger than 40 or within their first 10 years of veterinary practice. They must also work with a veterinary practice that serves dairy farm clients.
“This award is named in memory of David Hileman, who was not a veterinarian but a forward-thinking, service-oriented dairy producer who gave generously to the Dairy Excellence Foundation and was passionate about the next generation in our industry,” said Jayne Sebright, Executive Director of the Dairy Excellence Foundation.
“We hope this award can support the next generation of our veterinary community in Pennsylvania through the memory and legacy of David Hileman,” Sebright added.
The recognition is intended for veterinary professionals who understand the relationship between animal care, dairy farm management, and farm profitability.
Other important qualities include professional integrity, practical problem-solving, proactive support for dairy producers, and a strong commitment to serving Pennsylvania's dairy industry.
The award also highlights veterinarians who build positive relationships with dairy farm clients and provide solutions that contribute to long-term herd health and farm sustainability.
Nominations are being accepted online through the Center for Dairy Excellence website at www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/vet-service-award. Applications must be submitted by November 30, 2026.
The selected recipient will receive a $12,000 cash award and will be recognized during the annual Pennsylvania Dairy Summit in February.
The program aims to encourage and support the next generation of large animal veterinary professionals while recognizing individuals whose work strengthens dairy farming communities across Pennsylvania.
