The University of Kentucky is hosting the 2024 Fall Fencing School on November 14th at the GREENACRES Foundation Lewis Township Farm in Felicity, Ohio.
This educational event is open to agriculturalists, producers, homeowners, and anyone interested in learning about proper fence construction.
“Fencing is vitally important on the farm,” said Chris Teutsch, associate professor for the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, stationed in the UK Research and Education Center at Princeton. “Good fences keep our livestock safe and animals from getting out. Understanding the ins and outs of proper fencing is important for anyone installing fencing on their property, including residential homeowners.”
The day-long program offers both classroom learning and hands-on practice. The morning session covers various fence types and costs, construction basics, electric fencing technologies, and Kentucky fence laws.
In the afternoon, participants can put their newfound knowledge to the test with a hands-on fencing workshop. This session will demonstrate:
- Safety procedures, fence layout, and post-driving techniques
- H-brace construction
- Knot tying, splicing, and insulator installation
- Installing Stay-Tuff fixed-knot fencing
- High-tensile electric fencing installation
The event starts at 7:30 AM EDT and concludes with Q&A and a survey at 4:30 PM. Pre-registration is required at least a week before the event. The registration fee of $35 includes a notebook, safety equipment, refreshments, and lunch.
