Scholarships Strengthen Wheat Industry Future

Scholarships Strengthen Wheat Industry Future

By Scout Nelson

Kansas Wheat opens applications for two $1,000 scholarships that honor respected leaders in the wheat industry. High school seniors and current Kansas college students must apply by Friday, March 13, 2026.

The scholarships support students who plan to build careers in agriculture and strengthen the future of the Kansas wheat industry. Each scholarship awards $1,000 and continues a long tradition of leadership and service.

“Inspired by the enduring legacies of Herb Clutter and David Radenberg, Kansas Wheat is proud to help empower the next generation of the Kansas wheat industry,” said Justin Gilpin, CEO of Kansas Wheat. “Through these scholarships, we honor the passion of these industry leaders and help to provide opportunities for future leaders in agriculture.”

The Herb Clutter Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 each year to a Kansas student who is entering a two- or four-year college or university. The student must enroll full time and plan a career in agriculture. Selection is based on academic success, leadership qualities, and career goals. The scholarship supports tuition and is not renewable.

The David Radenberg Memorial Scholarship will also award $1,000 to a current undergraduate or graduate student in Kansas for studying agriculture. Preference goes to students working in wheat improvement fields such as genetics, agronomy, breeding, plant pathology, Extension, and bioinformatics. Incoming freshmen and transfer students are not eligible.

Applicants for both scholarships must complete a 400-500 words essay explaining why they choose a career in agriculture. The selection committee reviews the essay along with application materials. Financial need is also considered for the Radenberg scholarship.

Applications and documents must be mailed to Kansas Wheat, 1990 Kimball Ave, Manhattan, KS 66502, by March 13, 2026. Students may learn more or download forms at https://kswheat.com/growers/outreach/ or visit kswheat.com/clutter and kswheat.com/radenberg.
