U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced securing over $41 million in federal funds to bolster Wisconsin’s agricultural conservation, drive economic growth in the sector, and address climate change impacts.
This investment aims to equip Wisconsin farmers with the resources to expand sustainable farming practices, which contribute to climate resilience and environmental health.
“Many of our farmers are leading the way with conservation practices and this investment doubles down on them by providing the tools and resources they need to expand these sustainable practices and boost their bottom lines,” said Senator Baldwin. “I am proud to bring home this funding that will help strengthen our agricultural community, combat climate change, and ensure farming will continue to be an economic powerhouse across our state.”
The funding, distributed through the USDA’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), draws support from the Inflation Reduction Act, a policy championed by Senator Baldwin. This funding targets two major initiatives:
Midwest Greener Future received $21,242,000 to combat greenhouse gas emissions associated with dairy production. The project encourages practices like cover cropping, no-till farming, conservation crop rotation, and advanced waste management, all intended to lower emissions and improve water quality.
Milwaukee River Basin Conservation Partnership was allocated $19,882,000 to enhance climate resilience, promote soil health, and improve water quality across the Milwaukee River Basin. This initiative supports local landowners and farmers in Southeastern Wisconsin, connecting rural and urban areas through sustainable agricultural practices.
