Soil Health Focused Field Events

Soil Health Focused Field Events

By Scout Nelson

Two field days in northeast Nebraska are scheduled in July 2026 to showcase regenerative agriculture practices. These events will bring together producers, landowners, agricultural professionals, and community members interested in improving soil health, increasing profitability, and building resilient farming systems.

The programs are organized by Bazile Groundwater Management Area, Lewis and Clark NRD, Lower Elkhorn NRD, Lower Niobrara NRD, Upper Elkhorn NRD, Rural Affairs, USDA Organic, and local partners. The goal is to promote farming techniques that enhance soil quality, improve nutrient cycling, reduce costs, and strengthen long term agricultural sustainability.

The Regenerative Ag Field Day will take place on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon near Highway 81 and 20 junctions. Hosted by the BGMA Project, the event will present real farm examples. Participants will learn about soil health management, adapting farm strategies, nutrient cycling, and weed control methods.

Speakers include Junior Pfanstiel, Agronomy Expert at Outside the Box Agronomy, who will explain the theory and process of shifting to regenerative farming. Zack Smith, Livestock Integration Specialist at The Stock Cropper, will discuss how livestock can improve profits and make better use of land resources. A complimentary lunch will follow at The Breakroom in Randolph.

The Regenesis Acres Field Day will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, starting at the Atkinson Community Center and moving to Regenesis Acres for field sessions. Topics will include soil health improvement, diverse crop rotations, water conservation, and reducing farm inputs.

Speakers include Mac Trotter, Regenerative Farmer; Rion Naus, Agricultural Consultant at We Grow With LLC; Zack Smith, Livestock Specialist at Stockcropper LLC; Ed Baumgartner, Seed Specialist at Bass Hybrids; Lynn Hoover, Soil Health Advisor at Ocean Blue Ag; Blake Merritt, Agronomy Consultant at Core Bio Ag; Sara Paxton, Health Coach at Nourish Health Coaching; Jessie Poessnecker, Regenerative Farmer.

Both events are free, but advance registration is required by July 6 due to limited space.
