Susan Sloop has been appointed as the new County Director for the University of Illinois Extension, overseeing Clark, Crawford, and Edgar counties.
In her new role, Sloop is determined to make an impact by focusing on all eight areas of Illinois Extension’s strategic plan, including community development, economic growth, and workforce excellence.
Doug Harlan, University of Illinois Extension Assistant Director for Region 3, expressed his confidence in Sloop’s leadership.
"Susan brings a wealth of experience and knowledge about the local communities. She is a strong leader, empathetic listener, and a results-driven problem solver,” Harlan said.
Sloop's responsibilities include managing staff and volunteers, program planning, budget and finance management, and impact reporting.
She aims to strengthen community connections, promote collaboration, and develop innovative programs to support growth and opportunities in the region.
Having joined Illinois Extension in 2015, Sloop has worked in various roles, including as a family life educator and a 4-H youth development educator. Her work has focused on important areas such as early childhood development, healthy aging, and family resilience.
Additionally, her contributions to expanding access to 4-H programs have helped foster leadership and essential life skills among Illinois youth.
Sloop holds both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science from Indiana State University, along with a post-baccalaureate teaching certificate from Western Governors University.
Her extensive experience and commitment to community development will be key as she leads the efforts in Clark, Crawford, and Edgar counties.
